Helping a client to navigating difficult conversations, manage perceptions and gain confidence to pursue a senior role.
The Challenge:
How to build confidence to pursue a senior role
My client (a HR professional) was feeling stuck. She felt unheard and unsupported by her manager. Wanting to build her confidence to navigate difficult conversations with her manager and peers. She wanted to learn how to demonstrate the value she brought to the organisation. How to be strategic about positioning herself for a more senior role—especially in an environment that didn’t fully recognise her strengths.
The Approach:
1:1 coaching
Through coaching, I provided a safe space to reflect, be gently challenged, and create clarity on what she wanted in her next role
Together we:
- Practised navigating tough conversations and managing perceptions.
- Identified and reframed limiting beliefs.
- Pinpointed filler words that were undermining her confidence.
- Developed assertive strategies for speaking up.
- Clarified what she wanted in a role, ranked priorities, and built a targeted action plan.
- Practised using the language of those around her to better align and influence.
The Outcome:
Confidence grew – successfully secured a senior position
She became more strategic in her approach and her communication. By identifying the ‘filler words’ that were undermining her confidence and how she was showing up, she started to change the way she was communicating.
She challenged her limiting beliefs through evidence. Identifying real examples of the value she brought to her role and her company.
She built the confidence to trust in her strengths and experience. Not just just waiting for others to make decisions about her and her next role. She started to explore new roles both internally and externally and successfully secured a senior position with a new company that aligned with her values and goals.
